I had to share with you this gorgeous photo of a real tui having a good chat with his friend the metal tui.

For the one who hears the tūī before anyone else. Give their favourite garden visitor a permanent perch, with all that familiar character and considerably less interruption to the morning coffee.
25 cm high × 31 cm wide; approximately 300 g. Made in New Zealand from 3 mm Corten weathering steel.
That curved beak and little throat tuft are enough to give this visitor away. Our Tūī keeps its familiar outline in the garden, even when the real birds are busy elsewhere. Place it against open sky, where you can spot it from the kitchen window. A good gift for the person who always hears the tūī first.
Corten is weathering steel. Its grey surface changes through orange and brown tones outdoors as a natural rust patina develops. Each setting leaves its own mark, so colour and timing vary. Allow water to drain and keep rusty runoff away from pale stone, walls and other surfaces that could stain.
Choose sound, solid wood with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downward and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hard wood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection, and keep the pointed spike away from children. A fence post or timber planter is a useful alternative to a living tree.
Your steel bird arrives flat-packed in Metalbird gift packaging. A small box for someone you have in mind, ready for them to choose a perch.

Yes. Natural rust patina is part of Corten steel. Runoff can stain nearby surfaces, especially while weathering; choose the location with that in mind.

No. Use sound timber such as a fence post or wooden planter. If you prefer a living tree, consult the tree-care guidance in our Help Centre and choose the site carefully; no tree-safety guarantee is implied.
