Description

Three mini fantails. One very happy gift-giver.

The Baby Pīwakawaka Bundle is our love letter to New Zealand’s favourite native bird — now in adorable mini silhouette form, times three. Whether you gift them separately or keep them as a sweet little trio, these baby birds make meaningful gestures that last far beyond the unwrapping.

Each bird comes tucked into its own A6-sized envelope — perfect for Christmas stockings, letterbox gifting, or slipping into someone's garden when they’re not looking. Made locally in NZ from 3mm Corten® steel, they’ll weather into a warm patina that blends beautifully with wood, bark, and stone.

These baby fantails are made to surprise and delight — whether peeking out from the veggie patch, perched beside the letterbox, or fluttering along the garden path.

1. Pick a spot with personality — a fence rail, timber edge, or garden bed border
2. Hold each bird steady, with the stake angled into the wood or soil
3. Tap the thickest end of the stake with a hammer or mallet until secure
4.Step back and smile — your Pīwakawaka is officially in residence

Top Tip: Pop one where they’ll catch the light in the morning — or tuck them in spots where kids or guests will stumble upon them first.

Can I give these as three separate gifts?
Absolutely — each baby bird comes in its own branded envelope, so you can gift them individually or as a full set.

Why are Pīwakawaka so special?
Fantails are friendly, cheeky little birds that love to dart around people. They’re known in Māori culture as messengers and guides — and they bring a real sense of movement and joy to any space.

Can I install these in pot plants or balcony planters?
Yes! They’re lightweight and compact, so they perch beautifully in pots, railing planters, or even nestled in indoor arrangements.

Will they rust or need replacing?
Not at all — they’re made from Corten® steel, which forms a protective patina over time. That weathered finish is part of the charm.

What occasions are they best for?
These are perfect for stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, thank-yous, or any moment where a small gesture carries big meaning.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
