A hand holds the Mini Pīwakawaka by Metalbird New Zealand, a Corten steel bird with a fanned tail—an ideal unique gift—shown against a gray textured background.
MEET THE BIRD

Small enough for a little thank-you.

The tail still does most of the talking. Mini Pīwakawaka keeps that recognisable fan in a palm-sized steel bird, with a small spike for sound timber. Give it a clear backdrop on a little wooden perch, or tuck its A6 envelope into a parcel for someone you have in mind.

MADE FOR OUTDOORS

Steel that changes with the seasons

Corten is weathering steel. Its grey surface changes through orange and brown tones as a natural rust patina develops. Colour and timing depend on the setting. Keep it well drained and allow for rusty runoff, which can mark paving, pots and nearby surfaces. This is unpainted steel, not a permanent black finish.

INSTALLATION

Choose a perch. Tap it in.

Choose sound, solid timber with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downwards and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hardwood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection. A timber fence post or wooden planter gives you an alternative to a living tree.

How do I fit it?

Choose sound, solid timber with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downwards and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hardwood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection. A timber fence post or wooden planter gives you an alternative to a living tree.

Do I need a tree?

No. Sound timber such as a fence post or wooden planter works too. For a living tree, check the tree-care guidance in our Help Centre before fitting. No tree-safety guarantee is implied.

Will it rust or stain?

Corten is weathering steel. Its grey surface changes through orange and brown tones as a natural rust patina develops. Colour and timing depend on the setting. Keep it well drained and allow for rusty runoff, which can mark paving, pots and nearby surfaces. This is unpainted steel, not a permanent black finish.
