3. Tap the stake gently with a hammer or mallet until secure
4. Or, push directly into soil by hand if soft enough
5. Stand back and admire your new mini companion

Top tip: Indoors? Use florist foam, moss, or a decorative block to anchor the Mini Kererū in place without damaging surfaces.

How small is the Mini Kererū, really?
At just 10cm tall, it’s designed for pots, small planters, or as a pocket-sized gift. It’s the smallest silhouette in our range.

Is it weatherproof?
Yes. It’s made from tough 3mm Corten® steel — designed to last outdoors and develop a rich, protective patina.

Does it stand up on its own?
It needs to be staked into soil or wedged into a surface — it won’t free-stand on its own.

Where should I place it?
It looks great in pot plants, herb gardens, raised beds or small wooden posts — even nestled into flower arrangements.

Bird fact: Kererū are the only remaining native bird in Aotearoa capable of dispersing large-fruited trees — helping regenerate our native forests.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
