Description

A timeless symbol of peace, love, and hope.
The Turtle Dove has charmed us for centuries — from classic Christmas carols and Shakespearean poetry to the soft turr-turr coo drifting from summer hedgerows. A bird wrapped in meaning, it represents everything we need more of at this time of year: connection, calm, and care. Whether you're celebrating Christmas, honouring someone special, or just want to bring a little serenity to your garden, this beautifully crafted silhouette is a soulful choice.

Our Turtle Dove is:

Heartfelt and symbolic – 22cm high × 30cm wide, approx. 300g
Perfect for gifting – ships in a slim A4 box (31 × 21 × 1cm)
Speedy to send – same-day dispatch on weekday orders before 2pm
Made in Aotearoa – crafted in a family-run NZ factory
Weather-tough – cut from 3mm Corten steel that patinas over time
Simple to install – no tools needed, just a hammer and a good spot

Like the dove itself — graceful, simple, and meaningful.

1. Pick your perch — a fence post, tree, garden bed, or planter box.
2. Hold the stake at a downward angle for a strong, natural-looking install.
3. Use a hammer or mallet to tap the thickest part of the branch or base until secure.
4. Step back and enjoy — the rich tones will deepen and blend with the landscape over time.

Top Tip: If you're installing into hardwood or an old post, pre-drill a small pilot hole to make tapping in easier.

Why is the Turtle Dove associated with peace?
With its gentle call and lifelong monogamy, the Turtle Dove has long symbolised enduring love and harmony across cultures.

Is this a Christmas product?
It makes a wonderful seasonal gift, but its meaning and beauty hold year-round.

Can I install this in a pot plant or planter box?
Absolutely — it’s easy to place in posts, gardens, pots, or even among flowers.

Will it last outdoors in all weather?
Yes. The 3mm Corten steel develops a protective rust-like patina that stands up to the elements.

Is it made in New Zealand?
Yes, every Metalbird is made locally in a small, family-run factory right here in Aotearoa.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
