A silhouette of survival and song. The Chatham Island Black Robin is one of Aotearoa’s greatest conservation success stories. Once reduced to a single fertile female, this tiny round songbird came back from the brink — and now, just a few hundred remain in the wild. This silhouette honours that near-miracle. It’s a tribute to resilience, hope, and the people who never gave up.
Crafted from 3mm Corten® steel, it’s built to last and weather beautifully over time. Whether gifted to a nature-lover or installed in your own backyard, this piece brings meaning and presence to any space.

This little survivor deserves a place of pride — we recommend a quiet spot near native trees, a garden path, or anywhere birds tend to gather.
1. Choose a timber post, tree trunk, or fence rail for natural effect 2. Hold the robin steady with the stake angled slightly downward 3. Tap the thickest part of the stake with a hammer or mallet 4. If installing into hardwood, pre-drilling a small guide hole helps 5. Step back — it’s not just a silhouette, it’s a story worth telling
Top Tip: Place where it catches soft morning light for a beautiful shadow-play.

AS SEEN IN
Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.
When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.
That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.
This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.
The Patina Process:
At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.

Seen from the longe and spa he sits near the blossom tree and sparrows that spend their day in and out.
Black Robin
I love this robin. I have it on a fence above a garden filled with grasses and standard trees. The shape of the bird is so prominent you can see it clearly. It almost looks real! It’s so cute. I love it.

The Black Robin is delightful, our grandson gave us for Xmas a wee owl and small fantail, which we just love. When I ordered the robin I presumed it would be a small one, didn’t check the size! Have a home for it anyway but would love a tiny black robin too. Do you make a wee one. .
Awesome Christmas present
My parents loved their gift and now have a Chatham Island robin in the garden, reminding them of their time living in the Chathams. Such an awesome concept.
Black Robin
You’ve got to find the perfect spot for your metal bird, but when you do they are awesome. Just don’t knock them in to hard when you’re experimenting with the spot, they aren’t designed to come back out :)
