✓ Doubles as art – a native bird sculpture that gives support and style

Kererū know how to perch with purpose — and so does this stake.

    1. Slot the two parts together until the joint clicks snugly
    2. Insert directly into potting mix, avoiding the root zone
    3. Position upright near climbers to support vertical growth
    4. Secure stems with soft ties or clips if needed
    5. Let nature do its thing as your plant wraps and climbs
    6. Stand back and admire — you’ve created a mini native bird sanctuary

Top tip: Use in a deep pot or planter box for best balance and visual impact.

Will this stake rust over time?
Not rust — Corten® steel develops a weathered patina that protects the surface and blends beautifully with plants.

    Can I use this outdoors?
Absolutely. It’s designed for both indoor and outdoor plants — rain, sun, or shine.

What kinds of plants work best with it?
It's ideal for climbing or trailing plants like pothos, monstera, philodendron, or sweet peas.

Do I need any special tools to install it?
Nope! Just your hands and a pot of soil. Slide the joint together and press the stake in firmly.

    Why kererū?
Kererū are NZ’s only native bird able to spread large native tree seeds like tawa and karaka — true forest heroes!

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

    The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.

what’s the word on the bird?
