MEET THE BIRD

A pair worth making room for.

Two adult black robins sit together on one steel branch. The Karure Pair nods to Old Blue and Old Yellow, the breeding pair at the heart of the black robin recovery effort. Their story belongs to the people who kept working when so few birds remained. Give this pair a clear timber perch and keep a little reminder of that effort close to home.

30% of profits from every Karure Pair goes directly to Forest & Bird. Discount codes do not apply to Conservation Birds, as a portion of profits is donated to Forest & Bird.

MADE FOR OUTDOORS

Steel that changes with the seasons

Corten is weathering steel. Its grey surface changes through orange and brown tones as a natural rust patina develops. Colour and timing depend on the setting. Keep it well drained and allow for rusty runoff, which can mark paving, pots and nearby surfaces. This is unpainted steel, not a permanent black finish.

INSTALLATION

Choose a perch. Tap it in.

Choose sound, solid timber with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downwards and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hardwood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection. A timber fence post or wooden planter gives you an alternative to a living tree.
