Description

There’s nothing quite like spotting a Tūī perched on a flax flower… sun catching its iridescent feathers, throat puffed with song, ready to let loose a symphony of clicks, cackles, and melodic chaos. This silhouette captures that wild charisma in Corten steel, giving you a way to bring the spirit of New Zealand’s favorite show-off to your garden or deck.

Tūī are more than just beautiful. With their dual voice boxes and head-bopping antics, they’re the punk rockers of the native bird world. In Maori culture, they’ve long been considered messengers and bringers of vitality. Whether you’re giving this as a housewarming gift, marking a moment of personal growth, or simply upgrading your backyard with iconic NZ flair, this sculpture hits the mark.

Crafted from 3mm Corten steel in a family-run New Zealand factory, it’s built to weather anything the seasons throw at it... forming a rich, protective patina over time. Installing it is as easy as holding it on a downward angle and tapping the stake into a post or tree with a hammer.

This Tūī isn’t just garden decor... it’s your invitation to join the Metalbird Global Art Project: a worldwide celebration of memory, place, and connection.

Our Tūī is:

   Bold silhouette, big presence – 25 cm H × 31 cm W, approx. 300 g

   Easy to gift – packaged in a slim A4 box (31 × 21 × 1 cm)

Speedy shipping – same-day dispatch on weekday orders before 2 pm

Made in New Zealand – produced in a small NZ family-owned workshop

Tap it & done – easy hammer-in install at a downward angle

Ages beautifully – crafted from 3 mm Corten steel with weathering patina

Bring the tūī's wild energy home in under five minutes.

1. Choose your perch – a tree trunk, post, or wooden fence works perfectly
2. Hold on a downward angle – this gives you the best leverage and bite
3. Tap it gently with a hammer – using the thickest end of the stake
4. Check it’s solid – it should feel firm and steady in its new perch
5. Step back and admire – your tūī is officially on tour

Top Tip: For extra impact, position it where sunlight can catch those curves – it’ll glow with the changing seasons.

Why does the Tūī have two voice boxes?
That’s what lets it produce such a wild range of sounds — from melodic notes to robotic squawks. It’s a vocal virtuoso!

Can I install this into a tree?
Yes – it’s designed for wood. Just choose a sturdy part of the trunk or branch and follow the install tips.

Does it rust?
Intentionally! Corten® steel forms a rich, rust-like patina that protects the bird and helps it blend into natural surroundings.

Is it weatherproof?
Absolutely. Rain, shine, wind – this bird is made to be outside all year round.

Is it a good gift?
Totally. Especially for birthdays, housewarmings, or farewells – it’s lightweight, easy to send, and unforgettable.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
