Description

Two's company – and when it comes to Kererū, it’s downright majestic.

Larger than life and loud enough to prove it, the Kererū is a native icon with presence. When two show up together? It's a proper power couple moment. With their smart tuxedo vests, glinting green neck feathers and clumsy landings, the Kererū never fail to steal the show – and our hearts.

Our Kererū Pair captures the gentle intimacy of two wood pigeons perched together, inspired by the real-life dedication of Kererū parenting. These birds take turns incubating a single precious egg, proving that sharing is, in fact, caring. Add that same balance and beauty to your own backyard with this elegant sculpture.

Let your Kererū take up residence – no nesting materials required.

1. Choose a sturdy surface – trees, posts or wooden fences work best
2. Hold the silhouette at a downward angle for best leverage
3. Tap the stake into place using a mallet or hammer on the flat end
4. Pre-drill first if installing into hard wood for an easier tap-in
5. Adjust your angle to ensure both birds catch the light just right
6. Stand back and smile – your garden just got a whole lot more romantic

Top tip: Pair it with native planting like Kōwhai, Miro or Tawa – Kererū will love the setting (and so will your sculpture).

Are these Kererū life-size?
Pretty close! They're scaled slightly smaller than a real Kererū for practicality, but they make a striking visual statement in any garden.

Will the steel rust or stain?
It’s Corten® steel – it weathers into a rust-coloured patina that protects the metal beneath and won’t flake off like regular rust.

Can I install this on a tree trunk?
Yes – trees are a great option! Just make sure to angle the stake downward and use gentle force when installing.

Is this a good gift for couples or weddings?
Absolutely. With their strong pairing behaviour and shared parenting duties, Kererū make a beautifully symbolic gift for anniversaries or new beginnings.

Do Kererū really only lay one egg?
Yes! They put all their energy into raising one chick at a time — a rare approach in the bird world, and one that makes their bond even more special.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
