Kārearea / New Zealand Falcon
Eyes on the next move.
The hooked beak, spotted feather cutouts and upright stance give this kārearea plenty of presence. Our original New Zealand falcon design is perched, with its wings folded. Choose a sturdy timber post with a clear backdrop and let it keep an eye on the garden. For the falcon fan who would spot those details straight away.
For the open-wing design, see Kārearea: Wings of Glory.
Steel that changes with the seasons
Corten is weathering steel. Its grey surface changes through orange and brown tones as a natural rust patina develops. Colour and timing depend on the setting. Keep it well drained and allow for rusty runoff, which can mark paving, pots and nearby surfaces. This is unpainted steel, not a permanent black finish.
Choose a perch. Tap it in.
Choose sound, solid timber with space around the silhouette. Hold the branch securely, angle the mounting spike slightly downwards and tap the thick end with a hammer or mallet until steady. Hardwood may need a pilot hole. Wear gloves and eye protection. A timber fence post or wooden planter gives you an alternative to a living tree.
Packed flat. Someone in mind.
Packed flat in Metalbird gift packaging, ready for someone to choose its home. Check the dimensions before choosing the spot.
